Five-Spice Rice Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups long-grain rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon five-spice powder (or cinnamon) (adjust to taste)
  • 1 12 ounce can evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil in medium saucepan, add rice, stir until boil returns, cover, reduce heat, and simmer for about 15 mins.
  2. When rice is done add milk, stir well, add dry ingredients and stir well again. Simmer 15-20 mins or until mixture has thickened
  3. somewhat, stirring very frequently.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, put into bowl, refrigerate uncovered for at least half an hour.
