This traditional recipe uses fresh Concord grapes and simple ingredients, resulting in a naturally sweet and robust beverage ideal for special occasions or casual sipping.

Ingredients

  • 1 gal. Concord grapes
  • 2 1/2 qt. sugar
  • 1 gal. warm water

Instructions

  1. Place the Concord grapes, sugar, and warm water in a crock jar and mix well.
  2. Cover the jar with a dish towel, changing it occasionally if mixture gets on it.
  3. Let the mixture set in a warm place for 2 weeks.
  4. Skim off foam and stir daily during fermentation.
  5. Once fermentation stops, transfer the mixture into bottles.
  6. Cover the bottles with balloons (not caps) and allow to ferment for approximately 6 to 8 weeks until fermentation is complete.
