Mint Juleps For A Crowd

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bunch of fresh mint (about 1 cup, packed)
  • 1 gallon good quality Bourbon

Instructions

  1. To make simple syrup, combine sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan.
  2. Place over high heat and bring to a boil, stirring the mixture to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Boil 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and add washed mint (still on the stem, just stir it all in).
  5. Set aside for 24 hours.
  6. Strain the mixture into a jar and discard the mint.
  7. Chill julep cups or glasses in the freezer before making juleps.
  8. Fill them with crushed ice.
  9. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of mint syrup and 2 ounces of bourbon.
  10. Garnish with sprigs of mint, if desired.
