Wheat Chex Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 c. Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 oz. cake yeast
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 4 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Mix Wheat Chex, salt, sugar and shortening.
  2. Heat milk in 1/4 cup water.
  3. Bring to boiling.
  4. Pour over mixture.
  5. Stir and let cool until lukewarm.
  6. Dissolve yeast in remaining 1/4 cup water (lukewarm).
  7. Stir into cooled mixture.
  8. Add flour, 1 cup at a time.
  9. Mix after each cup.
  10. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  11. Set in warm place to rise until double in size.
  12. Punch down and rise again.
  13. Bake 1 hour at 350°.
  14. Makes 2 loaves.
