18 Day Pickles

Ingredients

  • 1 c. salt
  • 1 gal. sliced cucumbers (cover in water)
  • 2 Tbsp. alum
  • 9 c. sugar
  • water
  • vinegar

Instructions

  1. Add salt to cucumbers. Let stand 4 days.
  2. Wash pickles 3 times.
  3. Add
  4. alum
  5. and
  6. fill
  7. with water.
  8. Let stand 1 day. Rinse well.
  9. Pour
  10. vinegar
  11. over pickles.
  12. Let stand 10 days. Drain vinegar and rinse. Add 3 cups sugar.
  13. Repeat last step for
  14. 3 days.
  15. (Total
  16. 9 cups sugar.) Store in gallon jug. No seal necessary.
