Batter Bread(Makes 2 Loaves)

Instructions
- Soften the yeast in warm water.
- Add scalded milk to sugar, salt and shortening.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Add 2 cups of flour.
- Beat well with a spoon or mix 1 minute on medium-low speed of mixer. Add softened yeast and egg.
- Beat well again.
- Add remaining flour to make a thick batter.
- Beat until smooth.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place (80° to 85°) until doubled.
- Stir down and smooth into the two greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans.
- Cover and let rise until almost doubled (about 50 minutes).
- Bake 25 to 35 minutes at 375°.
