Ingredients

  • 1 pt. whipping cream
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Heat cream over low heat until bubbles form around edge of pan.
  3. Beat egg yolks and sugar together until thick, about 3 minutes.
  4. Gradually beat cream into egg yolks. Stir in vanilla and pour into 6 (6 ounce) custard cups.
  5. Place custard cups in baking pan that has about 1/2 inch water in the bottom.
  6. Bake until set, about 45 minutes.
  7. Remove custard cups from water and refrigerate until chilled.
  8. Sprinkle each custard with about 2 teaspoons sugar.
  9. Place on top rack under broiler and cook until topping is medium brown.
  10. Chill before serving.
  11. Makes 6 servings.
