Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Combine milk and cornstarch in a saucepan and cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
  2. Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, shortening, butter, vanilla, lemon extract, and salt.
  4. Add the cooled cornstarch mixture to the creamed ingredients and beat until smooth.
  5. Frost two 9-inch cake layers with the frosting.
