Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. lard
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. cold water
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 12 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over lard, sugar and salt.
  2. Use large bowl. Stir until dissolved.
  3. Add 1 cup cold water and let mixture cool to lukewarm.
  4. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water.
  5. Add to other liquid.
  6. Add flour.
  7. Mix well.
  8. Let rise to double bulk; knock down and let rise again.
  9. Knock down and knead well.
  10. Put in greased and floured bread pans and let rise again.
  11. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
  12. To keep crust soft, coat with butter while still warm from oven.
