Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 c. very warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 5 1/2 to 6 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Mix all
  2. but flour.
  3. Add 5 cups flour and mix with hook or knead
  4. in

  6. flour
  7. until you have soft, elastic dough. Let rise
  8. until
  9. big, 30 minutes.
  10. Knock down, shape into loaf pans or into
  11. French
  12. bread shapes.
  13. Brush French bread types with beaten egg
  14. before last rising.
  15. Bake until almost done, take out
  16. and cool.
  17. Reheat for 10 minutes in 400° for crusty French loaves.
