Pappy'S Sweet Pickles

- Fill gallon jar with washed whole cucumbers.
- Add salt, alum and pickling spices.
- Now pour vinegar (5%) over cucumbers. Finish filling jar with water.
- Put lid on tight and shake jar until all is dissolved.
- Date jar and let stand for 2 or 3 weeks. Drain all liquid from pickles, saving pickling spices, to add back to pickles.
- Chunk or slice pickles, then add sugar over the pickles and shake jar until all sugar turns to liquid.
- Let stand 2 or 3 days, then "eat them up".
- You do not have to keep them in the refrigerator.
