- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Coat a large baking sheet with 1 tablespoon of softened butter.
- Beat 1 pound butter and cup of sugar together at high speed; then beat in flour, one cup at a time.
- Beat until smooth.
- (You might have to use your hands.)
- On floured board, roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut rectangles, triangles or Christmas cookie cutter
- shapes, etc..
- Prick all over with tines of fork.
- Bake 22 to 27 minutes until firm and lightly browned.
- Cool on cake racks.
- Will keep for 2 or 3 weeks in covered jars.
