Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 4 c. warm water
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening or cream
  • 1 Tbsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Put water in a pan and add sugar and yeast, then let the yeast dissolve and see it come to the top of the water.
  2. Sift flour into a baking pan, add salt, then pour in the yeast mixture and add the shortening.
  3. Mix with your hands until the dough is stiff and well combined.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled in size, punch it down, then let it rise again.
  5. Shape the dough and place it in a pan, then let it rise until doubled in size again.
  6. Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 55 minutes until golden brown.
