- In a large bowl, beat the yolks, flavoring and water until it looks like enough to make a quart.
- Add one cup of sugar gradually and beat seven minutes.
- Add flour, baking powder and salt, sifted together and beat just until mixed.
- Finally, beat egg whites stiff and then add gradually the remaining 1/4 cup sugar and the cream of tartar and beat until very stiff.
- Fold egg whites into batter.
- Bake in an ungreased tube pan at 350° for about 45 minutes.
- Invert pan and cool.
- Delicious.
- Frost or serve with strawberries and Cool Whip.
