Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. water
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 5 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 6 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Warm milk, 1 cup water and butter together.
  2. Pour into large mixing bowl.
  3. Add sugar and salt; mix well.
  4. Add yeast to cooled milk mixture.
  5. Add flour slowly, stirring constantly.
  6. Knead dough for 10 minutes; set aside in a greased bowl in warm place, turning dough once so that all sides are greased.
  7. Cover with damp cloth.
  8. Let rise 1 1/2 hours or until double.
  9. Punch down, knead several minutes.
  10. Shape into 3 loaves and place in greased pans.
  11. Allow to rise until double. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes.
  12. Reduce heat to 350° and bake 35 to 45 minutes.
