- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Butter a large casserole dish.
- Dump both cans of apple pie filling into the dish and spread evenly across the bottom.
- Sprinkle the dry white cake mix evenly over the apple filling.
- Cut the 2 sticks of butter into 1/4-inch pads and place them evenly on top of the dry cake mix.
- Bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Just as the butter starts to melt, add the maraschino cherries (including juice if desired) on top of the cake.
