Barren Molasses Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 Tbsp. water
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/3 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, salt, shortening and baking powder to a fine consistency.
  2. Add dissolved baking soda to molasses.
  3. Beat with a spoon until light in color and foamy.
  4. Add molasses mixture to dry ingredients.
  5. Add 1/3 cup milk; stir.
  6. Mix and roll out in desired thickness.
  7. Bake at 375° for 20 minutes.
