Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons ice water

Instructions

  1. Chill the shortening.
  2. Cut the shortening into the flour and salt until the mixture forms crumbs.
  3. Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, flipping the mixture around in the bowl until a ball forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap.
  5. Chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Roll the dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan.
  7. Fill with pie filling or prick with a fork.
  8. Bake at 425°F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until firm, or leave unbaked.
