Beer Pretzels

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 (12 oz.) cans beer
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 4 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 beaten egg for egg wash
  • coarse kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Mix beer, yeast and sugar together until yeast is dissolved and foamy.
  2. Add flour; mix well.
  3. Knead about 10 minutes.
  4. Cover and let rise until doubled.
  5. Cover a cookie sheet with foil and grease well.
  6. Punch dough down; break off walnut sized pieces of dough and roll into rope, then shape into pretzel.
  7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake at 475° about 12 minutes.
  9. Best eaten while still warm as the pretzels get tough as they sit.
