Ingredients

  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 2 yeast cakes (dry)
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the oatmeal in boiling water and let it cool.
  2. Add molasses, sugar, shortening, yeast, and salt to the cooled oatmeal.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead the mixture into a dough.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into loaves.
  6. Let the loaves rise a second time until puffy.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the bread is cooked through and golden brown.
