Cinnamon Apple Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 granny smith apples peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch chunks
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • salt

Instructions

  1. In a 2-quart dish, combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Cover, and microwave on high until very tender, 10 to 15 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  3. Mash apples with the back of a spoon.
  4. Serve warm; or cover, refrigerate at least 1 hour, and serve chilled.
  5. If desired, add food coloring (e.g. green for Halloween, red or pink for Valentine's Day).
  6. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
