- Preheat oven to 250°.
- Sift sugar.
- Whip egg whites until stiff.
- Add the sugar very slowly, whipping constantly.
- Add vanilla and lemon peel.
- Fold in nuts and dates.
- Drop the batter from a spoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet and shape into cones.
- Bake until the drops are partly dry and hold their shape, about 45 to 60 minutes.
- Remove from sheet while still hot.
- Allow to cool.
- Makes about 45 cookies.
