Florida Orange Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange rind
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt; stir well. Add rind, and stir well. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add 3/4 cup orange juice and milk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 10 to 12 times.
  2. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 1 3/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on lightly greased baking sheets.
  3. Combine remaining ingredients; stir well. Gently press thumb into center of each biscuit. Spoon sugar-orange juice mixture into depressions. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
