Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 2 1/2 c. warm water
  • 5 Tbsp. shortening
  • 6 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Mix the salt, sugar, yeast, warm water, shortening, and flour to form bread dough.
  2. Let the dough rise for 10 minutes, then punch it down.
  3. Repeat the rising and punching process 5 times.
  4. Divide the dough into 8 flat balls.
  5. Let the dough balls rise for another 10 minutes.
  6. Bake at 400°F for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cut out the centers of the baked bread, scooping out the bread to create a bowl.
  8. Fill the bread bowls with your favorite soup, chili, or stew, then serve and enjoy.
