French Custards

Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. In heavy frying pan, heat 1 cup sugar.
  2. Do not stir or touch until brown.
  3. Turn off stove and mix until melted.
  4. Pour into 2-quart deep dish casserole; set aside.
  5. Heat milk in saucepan on low.
  6. In another bowl beat eggs with 1/2 cup sugar, salt and vanilla.
  7. Add to milk gradually; mix.
  8. Pour over caramel in casserole.
  9. Place in large pan filled with water and bake at 325° for 2 hours.
  10. Cool and refrigerate.
