Ingredients

  • 1 cake compressed yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. scalded milk
  • 1/2 c. cold water
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve compressed yeast in lukewarm water.
  2. Combine sugar, salt, shortening and scalded milk.
  3. Cool to lukewarm by adding cold water.
  4. Blend in egg and yeast.
  5. Add flour; mix until blended.
  6. Place in bowl (cover).
  7. Let rise in warm place 45 to 50 minutes.
