Ingredients

  • 1 cake fresh or 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 egg whites, beaten stiff
  • 1 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 4 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Soften yeast with 1/4 cup lukewarm water; add remaining water. Add sugar and shortening.
  2. Add 1 cup flour; beat well.
  3. Add yeast and egg whites; mix through.
  4. Add remaining flour and salt to make soft dough.
  5. Rise once; punch down and let rise again.
  6. Brush with egg yolk diluted with water.
  7. Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.
