Ingredients

  • 1 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 large Tbsp. softened lard
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. margarine, softened

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, buttermilk and lard with a spoon.
  2. Knead very, very lightly.
  3. Pat dough out (do not roll) until about 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits.
  4. Brush with melted margarine.
  5. Put on bottom rack of preheated 400° oven.
  6. Take out when brown on bottom (about 15 to 20 minutes).
  7. Butter again.
  8. Put on top rack and broil for just a few minutes.
  9. Watch carefully as they will burn.
