Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/3 cups self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Cut shortening into flour until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
  3. Stir in just enough milk so dough leaves side of bowl and rounds up into a ball.
  4. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly 10 times.
  5. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Cut with a floured 2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, about 1 inch apart for crusty sides or touching for soft sides.
  8. Bake until golden brown, about 10 to 12 minutes.
