Homemade Rye Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 cups warm water
  • 1/2 cup dry milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cups rye graham flour
  • 4 Tbsp. melted lard
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 7 - 8 cups white flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
  2. Add remaining ingredients--adding just enough white flour so dough springs back to touch when kneading.
  3. Cover and let rise until doubled.
  4. Punch down and let rise again.
  5. Divide dough into loaves.
  6. Put into greased loaf pans filling pans about 1/3 full.
  7. Let rise until 2/3 full.
  8. Bake at 350 - 375 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes.
