Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs slightly; beat in remaining ingredients.
  2. Pour mixture into 6 to 8 thin custard cups.
  3. Place cups in a saucepan or deep frying pan with a tight-fitting lid.
  4. Pour tap water into the pan so that it is level with the custards.
  5. Bring water to a full boil; immediately turn off heat and cover the pan.
  6. Let custards stand, covered, for 6 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove cups from water.
  8. Cool and chill before serving.
