Ingredients

  • 2 c. cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 c. white flour
  • 1/2 c. lard
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • enough milk to moisten

Instructions

  1. Do not use metal spoon or bowl.
  2. Do not refrigerate.
  3. On day 1, do nothing with starter.
  4. On days, 2, 3, 4 and 5, stir with wooden spoon.
  5. On day 6, add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk.
  6. On days, 7, 8 and 9, stir with wooden spoon.
  7. On day 10, add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk.
  8. Stir and pour into 3 (1-cup) containers.
  9. Keep one for yourself for future use and give the other 2 with a recipe to friends.
  10. You will have 1 cup left.
