- Bake 9-inch pie shell at 400°.
- Mix sugar and cornstarch together; add water 1/2 cup at a time.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Bring to boil (it will thicken) for 1 minute.
- Pour 1/2 hot mixture into egg yolks; stir well.
- Return mixture to saucepan and boil 1 minute longer.
- Remove from heat; add margarine, lemon juice and food color.
- Stir until blended. Pour into pie shell; let cool.
