Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine
  • 4 c. bread flour, divided
  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 pkg. RapidRise yeast

Instructions

  1. Combine water and butter in a saucepan; heat until butter melts, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove from heat and cool to 125° to 130°.
  3. Combine 3 cups bread flour and remaining ingredients in a large mixing bowl; stir well.
  4. Gradually add liquid mixture, beating well at high speed with an electric mixer.
  5. Beat an additional 2 minutes at medium speed.
  6. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  7. Cover bowl; let rest for 10 minutes.
