Ingredients

  • 6 lb. sugar
  • 3 lb. white Karo syrup
  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 2 oz. paraffin
  • 1 pinch tartaric acid
  • 1 c. water
  • 4 sheets gelatin

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, white Karo, butter, paraffin, tartaric acid, water, and dissolved gelatin in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil and cook until it reaches 260°F (hard ball stage).
  3. Cool the mixture until it can be handled safely.
  4. Add flavoring as desired and pull the taffy until it becomes glossy and pliable.
  5. Pull the taffy around a rod or on a surface to shape it into long rolls.
  6. Lay the finished taffy on a tile cabinet top in long rolls to set and cool.
