Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 4 tablespoons Crisco
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the dry yeast in warm water.
  2. Mix all ingredients together, as you do for biscuit dough.
  3. Cover the bowl with wax paper and then a towel.
  4. Let stand and rise for 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Knead the dough until stiff, using 1/2 cup of additional flour.
  6. Place the dough in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Brush the top with melted butter and let rise for 2 hours.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes.
