- Slice cucumbers 1/4-inch thick.
- Cover with water and household lime; let stand 24 hours.
- Rinse well and let stand in clear water for 3 hours.
- Drain well.
- Mix remaining ingredients including vinegar, pickling spice, sugar, and mustard seed.
- Pour the cold solution over the pickles.
- Let stand overnight.
- Simmer for 30 minutes, then put in jars and seal.
