Ingredients

  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • pinch of salt
  • macaroons

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk in a double boiler.
  2. Mix sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks with 3 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
  3. Add the mixture to the scalded milk and cook until thickened.
  4. Beat the egg whites until stiff, then fold them into the thickened custard along with vanilla.
  5. Add whole or broken macaroons and gently mix into the custard before serving.
