Ingredients

  • 6 gallons June apples, soft
  • 7 quarts sugar
  • 1 large can ground cinnamon
  • 1 small can ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Place cored, quartered, and peeled apples into a lard can.
  2. Pour sugar over the apples, covering them completely.
  3. Cover the can with a lid and let it sit overnight.
  4. The next morning, cook the apples for 3 hours or until tender.
  5. Remove from stove and mash the apples with a potato masher.
  6. Add ground cinnamon and ground cloves to the mashed apples.
  7. Pack the apple butter into hot jars and seal.
