Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2/3 c. sugar
  • 1 1/3 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/3 Tbsp. Crisco or lard
  • 2/3 c. cream
  • 6 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar and cream, then scald and cool.
  2. Blend all ingredients and add sufficient flour to knead until quite firm.
  3. Let the dough rise until doubled in bulk, then knead again.
  4. Allow the dough to rise again.
  5. On a floured board, flatten the dough to 1/2 inch thickness.
  6. Cut 1/2-inch strips 6 inches long, then roll each strip between hands to form a rope shape and shape into a figure 8.
  7. Dip one side of each piece in melted butter, then in sugar, and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet with sugar side up.
  8. Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes.
