- Mix together oatmeal, flour, sugar, soda and salt in large bowl.
- Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Add cold water to mixture, one tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball and holds together.
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Place a small amount of cornmeal or flour on a clean counter.
- Divide dough into two balls.
- Roll each ball of dough into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick on the "floured" counter.
- Cut each rectangle into 3-inch squares.
- Place the squares on a cookie sheet and bake 15 to 20 minutes or until brown on top.
- Store in an airtight container.
