Ingredients

  • 2 c. plain flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 to 1 c. milk (buttermilk is best)

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl (or use self-rising flour which has baking powder and salt in it).
  2. Cut shortening into flour with a fork until you have pea sized balls. Stir in enough milk to make a soft dough.
  3. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  4. (Try to handle your biscuit dough without touching it!
  5. That's how gentle you need to be.)
