Ingredients

  • vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp grated orange peel
  • 3 Tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of cloves
  • nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Oil a work surface, such as a countertop, marble slab, or flat baking sheet.
  2. Combine grated orange peel, orange juice, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in a medium-sized saucepan.
  3. Stir until sugar is dissolved and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the pecans a few at a time, stirring constantly to coat them evenly.
  5. Continue cooking until the pecans begin to lose their shine, about 2 to 3 minutes, then remove the pan from heat.
  6. Continue stirring until the pecans are clinging together in a mass.
  7. Spread the pecans on the oiled surface to cool.
  8. Use two forks to separate the pecans so they are not stuck together.
  9. Once cooled and crisp, store the pecans in a covered jar.
