Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 c. shortening

Instructions

  1. Roll dough half as thick as you like your biscuits.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add milk all at once.
  4. Stir with a fork just until moistened, knead gently 10 times on lightly floured surface.
  5. Roll or pat dough 1/2-inch thick.
  6. Cut with floured biscuit cutter.
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Makes 16.
