Ingredients

  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 package yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup mashed sweet potatoes
  • 4 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Combine scalded milk, shortening, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cool the mixture to lukewarm temperature, then add yeast and let it activate.
  3. Blend in eggs and mashed sweet potatoes, then add sifted flour and mix until the dough is well blended.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise until doubled in size.
  5. Turn out the risen dough onto a floured board and roll it to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut the dough with a biscuit cutter and let the pieces rise until light.
  7. Bake in a hot oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
