Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 pint lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup lard
  • enough flour for stiff dough

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the cake yeast in lukewarm water.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and lard; then mix in enough flour to form a stiff dough.
  3. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  4. Work the dough down and let it rise a second time.
  5. Work the dough down again, then shape into buns and place in pans.
  6. Let the buns rise until doubled in size.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes.
