Ingredients

  • 1 (14 oz.) can condensed milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. butter or oleo
  • 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 2 or 2 1/2 c. pecans

Instructions

  1. Mix condensed milk and sugar in heavy skillet.
  2. Allow to melt over medium heat, then turn heat higher so that a brown crust will form on bottom of pot.
  3. Scrape (do not stir) constantly.
  4. After cooking approximately 10 minutes, when mixture will become light caramel color and forms a soft ball in a cup of cold water. Remove from fire and mash all brown lumps with back of spoon.
  5. Add salt, butter and pecans, stirring 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Pour into buttered platter and cool.
