Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Separate the egg whites and yolks.
  2. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, and the yolks until thick and lemon-colored.
  3. Add 1 cup of sugar to the yolks and beat until completely mixed.
  4. Add vanilla, lemon juice (if using), and salt to the yolk mixture.
  5. Gently fold the yolk mixture into the beaten whites.
  6. Carefully fold in the flour into the mixture.
  7. Use a large buttered and floured tube pan to bake the batter.
  8. Bake in a preheated 325°F oven for 45 to 60 minutes.
