Ingredients

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Place egg yolks and sugar in a heavy saucepan and whisk together well, about 2 minutes.
  2. Add milk and whisk to blend.
  3. Set the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce begins to thicken.
  4. Don't allow it to come to a boil or the eggs will curdle.
  5. Remove from heat.
  6. Add vanilla extract.
  7. Pour into a glass or ceramic pitcher and allow to cool.
  8. Serve over fresh fruit or white cake topped with berries.
