- Bring the milk and water to a bubble; cool in the fridge to lukewarm.
- Add eggs, sugar, shortening, and yeast to the milk mixture; beat until well mixed.
- Sift 7 to 8 cups of flour.
- Stir in 5 1/2 to 6 cups of flour until dough starts to thicken.
- Add remaining 1 to 2 cups of flour until ready for kneading.
- Turn onto a floured board and knead for 2 to 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl with the rounded side up.
- Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
- Punch down the dough and let rise again for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
