Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening

Instructions

  1. Bring the milk and water to a bubble; cool in the fridge to lukewarm.
  2. Add eggs, sugar, shortening, and yeast to the milk mixture; beat until well mixed.
  3. Sift 7 to 8 cups of flour.
  4. Stir in 5 1/2 to 6 cups of flour until dough starts to thicken.
  5. Add remaining 1 to 2 cups of flour until ready for kneading.
  6. Turn onto a floured board and knead for 2 to 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place in a greased bowl with the rounded side up.
  8. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
  9. Punch down the dough and let rise again for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
